Groups File Suit Over Logging Plan

From Staff And Wire Reports

Two groups have filed suit in U.S. District Court seeking to keep Boise Cascade Corp. from logging Cuddy Mountain near Cambridge.

“Cuddy Mountain is a marvelous elk, deer and partridge hunting area, also home to rare raptors like goshawks, pileated woodpeckers and boreal owls,” said Ron Mitchell, executive director of the Idaho Sporting Congress.

The group and Neighbors of Cuddy Mountain filed the legal action on Friday.

Mitchell said the ratio between elk bulls and cows has been dropping on the west side of Payette Lake, and logging will make the ratio worse by removing 17 million board feet of timber.
