Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: I just heard a good hint from a friend of mine. He is a bicyclist and often goes on 30-mile runs.

He uses the plastic containers that rolls of film come in and fills them with dried fruit. They are lightweight and the caps open easily. He can have quick energy while he’s biking. - Joan Drake, Linden, N.J.

Yours is a good hint; however, film canisters are not food-grade plastic, so caution should be used. The best way to keep any type food like dried fruit safe is to wrap it in plastic wrap or put plastic wrap inside the canister before adding the fruit. - Heloise

Dear Heloise: When I use all the toothpaste I can squeeze from a tube, I cut both ends off and split the tube open. I can scrape enough toothpaste to last two or three weeks, depending on the size of the tube. I put the paste in a small closed container. - Mary White, Belvidere, N.C.
