Local UI Students Honored

Several local University of Idaho seniors have been honored with the Alumni Awards for Excellence in recognition scholarship and activities. Students are nominated by faculty and administrators with final selection made by a committee of faculty and alumni.

Recipients are as follows:

Deary

Christine Hunt, a law major.

Moscow

Sally Chang, an art major; Tammy Teuscher David, an electrical engineering major; Tonia Gable, an animal science major; Kelvin Saxton, an anthropology major; James Stearrett, an accounting major; Julie Tully-Doyle, a teacher education major; Zia Uddin, a mathematics major; Angela Wallace, an information systems major; and Kama White, a chemistry major.

Post Falls

Suzanne Perker, a political science major.

Rathdrum

Scott Conklin, a teacher education major.

Sandpoint

Ron Nelson, an electrical engineering major.

Troy

Ken Chapman, an electrical engineering major.

Four North Idaho College students have been selected by the Coeur d’Alene Rotary Scholarship Committee to receive $500 scholarships in their chosen fields of education. Selections were made based on merit and need.

Applied Technology

Eric Nichols, Coeur d’Alene, automotive technology, 3.21 grade-point average; and Michelle John, Coeur d’Alene, medical secretary, 3.0 grade-point average.

Academics

Kathleen Topps, Cataldo, law enforcement/criminal justice, 3.63 grade-point average; and Debbie Haag, Post Falls, nursing, 3.42 grade-point average.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of North Idaho recently elected its board of directors for 1997: Dave Paquin, president; Pam Fink, vice president; Kay Connors, secretary; and Lynn Anderson, treasurer.

The organization matches children with adult volunteers for companionship. There are 45 current matches and 40 more children waiting for companions.
