Dog Teams Gather For Championships
Forty to fifty teams from the Western states and Canada are expected to be at Priest Lake this weekend for the annual U.S. Pacific Coast Championship sled dog races.
The event includes a 35-mile race for the experienced racers, an eight-mile race for eight-dog sled teams, and some shorter sprint races for smaller dog teams.
The dogs also will compete in freight-pulling contests. Children will have their own Pee Wee Race and Teddy Bear Race. Sled dog teams also will be available for hired rides.
The events start at 10 a.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday at the Priest Lake airport south of Nordman.
