Joint Projects Will Improve Power System

From Staff And Wire Reports

Washington Water Power will team with the Bonneville Power Administration to spend $5.6 million improving the power system that feeds the Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry areas.

BPA will spend $3 million building a new switching station at its Sand Creek substation. The work there should be completed by October of this year.

WWP will spend $2.6 million to build service lines directly into Sandpoint. Work on a new 115,000-volt transmission line between Cabinet Gorge and Sandpoint will begin in May or June and be completed in early summer, according to WWP.

WWP also will improve its Cabinet Gorge Substation.

Switching, line work, and substation improvements at Cabinet Gorge also will provide increased levels of reliability for WWP’s Sandpoint customers and those served from the Clark Fork and Oden substations between Cabinet and Sandpoint, said Michael Nissley, WWP project manager.

By working with WWP, BPA will be able to postpone some expensive improvement projects in the area.
