Usc’s Parker Fired, Shocked

Los Angeles Daily News

Charlie Parker expressed shock and disappointment at being fired as USC basketball coach Wednesday, and said he may sue the university.

Parker, who has led the Trojans to an 11-10 record so far this season after a disastrous 7-21 campaign last year, said he was particularly surprised because he had received encouraging words from USC president Dr. Steven B. Sample after last week’s win over Oregon State.

“I even had him talk to the team,” Parker said. “He came into the locker room and was in our huddle. I had no idea this was going to happen.”

Parker, who spoke to the media at his home near the campus, took over the program following George Raveling’s near-fatal car accident. He said he will look into legal action against the school.

“I have been treated in an unprofessional manner,” he said.
