World War Ii Plane Wreckage Discovered

Compiled From Wire Services

The wreckage of a B-25 bomber that crashed during World War II has been found by copper miners in the New Guinea jungle, a U.S. Embassy spokesman confirmed Thursday.

The embassy is sending an official to investigate the wreckage, said spokesman Stromme Craig. He declined comment on a report that the miners had found five skeletons in the wreckage.

The miners who found the wreckage work for Freeport Indonesia, a subsidiary of the U.S. mining company Freeport McMoran. Freeport officials weren’t immediately available for comment.
