Lakeside Takes Third At A-4 Tournament

A-3/A-4 girls

The Lakeside Knights held Leadore to five fourth-quarter points and posted a 49-44 come-from-behind victory and a third-place finish in the State A-4 girls basketball tournament.

Lakeside, which trailed 39-34 heading into the final period, took its first lead of the game with 2:30 left to play on a basket by Alecia Hoffmann. Jennifer Niebuhr followed with a breakaway layup, and the Knights made 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch to wrap up the win.

Lakeside, which finishes the season with a 17-7 record, was led by the 15 points of Margaret SiJohn. Leadore (16-8), which placed fifth, was led by the 20 points of 6-foot-5 senior Julie Tyler.

Troy won the A-4 title with a 45-28 win over Dietrich. Carey captured fourth place with a 57-31 win over sixth-place finisher Nampa Christian.

A-3 State Tournament

Grangeville walloped Valley 45-27 to win the A-3 title. It marked the third straight year that Valley has lost in the championship game.

Challis won the consolation final by a 62-58 margin over West Side for third place. West Side finished fifth.

Clearwater Valley beat Glenns Ferry 48-32 for fourth place. Glenns Ferry placed sixth.
