Voila! Ala Leads Dragons Past Crusaders In Tourney

Luke Kennedy’s three-point play along with two free throws by Jason Ala late in the fourth quarter gave St. George’s a 45-41 win over visiting Northwest Christian in the Panorama League tournament semifinals Saturday.

The Dragons (20-2) earned an automatic berth in the District 7-B Tournament. St. George’s, which has won 16 straight, will play Republic, winners of 17 straight, on Friday at Colville for the top seed.

The Crusaders (14-8) will take on Inchelium in a loser-out contest on Tuesday at NWC.

Reardan, which has won 13 of its last 14 games, assured itself of a berth in the District 7-B Tournament. The Indians play Almira/Coulee-Hartline Thursday for the top seed.

Liberty will take on Wilbur-Creston in a Tuesday loser-out contest.

Jeremy Landram scored 11 of his 24 in the second quarter, and Greg Belzer scored 13 of his 26 in the third as the second-ranked and league champion Cougars (17-2, 14-0) beat the visiting Scotties (14-6, 9-5).

Landram added 11 assists and six steals. Steve Murbach had nine rebounds for Chewelah, which has a first-round bye at district. Garen Friberg scored 23 for Freeman, which can be tied for the No. 3 spot if Medical Lake wins a makeup game today.
