Dollar Can’t Make Up Losses

The dollar rallied on gains in U.S. stock and bond markets Monday, but the advance wasn’t enough to overcome earlier losses amid a broad strengthening of the German mark.

Despite its late afternoon rise during the U.S. session, the dollar concluded the day lower against the mark and the Japanese yen.

By 4 p.m. in New York, the dollar was trading at 1.4764 marks, down from 1.4872 on Friday. It finished at 106.80 yen, compared with 107.05 on Friday.
