Maple Leafs Power Past Penguins, 4-1

Kirk Muller and Mats Sundin scored on consecutive power plays late in the second period and the Toronto Maple Leafs took advantage of a rare off-night from Mario Lemieux to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 Monday night at Toronto.

With the score tied 1-1 late in the second period, Pittsburgh right wing Glen Murray took consecutive minor penalties and the Maple Leafs scored on both power plays.

Doug Gilmour and Dave Andreychuk also scored for Toronto.

Tom Chorske scored twice and Damian Rhodes stopped 29 shots as Ottawa won back-to-back games for the first time since October with a victory over New York.

Pavol Demitra and Dave Archibald each scored their second goal of the season for the Senators, who are 3-7-1 since Jacques Martin took over as head coach on Jan. 23.

Pierre Turgeon’s third-period goal broke a scoreless tie and Montreal went on to victory over San Jose.

The Canadiens were on a power play when Turgeon trailed in, took Martin Rucinsky’s pass and put a wrist shot to the top corner past Chris Terreri at 6:54.
