Colville Upsets Pullman In Finale
Frontier League
Just when a three-way tie for second place seemed probable among Frontier League boys, Colville popped up to pull a season-ending upset.
Tim Sprangers scored seven points in the third quarter and added seven rebounds as Colville (3-17, 2-10) upset visiting Pullman 71-61 to close out the regular season Saturday.
Pullman (12-8, 7-5) slipped to fourth place, negating the need for a tiebreaking procedure to determine pairings to the Excell District 7-AA Tournament.
Pullman opens district play at 9:15 p.m. Friday at Eastern Washington University against league champ West Valley. Cheney, which tripped WV 60-41 on Saturday, and Riverside, an 85-68 winner over Clarkston, meet at 5:45 in the other opener. Cheney and Riverside tied for second place.
This will be the final district tournament for Pullman’s Tim Busch, who coached there for 16 years. Busch announced his retirement Friday.
