Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Because I’m usually dashing off to the airport at the last minute, my curling iron brush was always warm when I dropped it in my carry-on bag.

The result was broken “teeth” on the brush.

I had the idea to use an empty paper towel tube to protect the teeth and prevent melting any plastic bags with which it might come in contact.

It works like a charm! (Note that some brands of paper towels have different size tubes, so it took a little experimenting to find one that fit.) - Arleen Breedlove, Colleyville, Texas

Dear Heloise: Keep mashed potatoes warm in your slow cooker before guests arrive. - Marie, West Orange, N.J.
