City Council Shoots Down Publicity Blimps

The Coeur d’Alene City Council voted to prohibit all airborne advertising signs as part of a new sign ordinance. Mayor Al Hassell had to break a tie between council members, siding with Councilwomen Dixie Reid, Nancy Sue Wallace and Susan Servick in the move to ban the blimps.

Before Tuesday’s action, smaller blimps and other tethered, airborne signs were allowed only with a special permit. Violation of the new ordinance is a misdemeanor. , DataTimes ILLUSTRATION: Color photo
