Scholar Brings ‘English Approach’

The Spokane Civic Theatre landed a Shakespearean scholar from England to direct its version of “As You Like It,” which opens tonight and continues through March 16.

Ken Pickering, a visiting professor of theater at Gonzaga University, has written two books about Shakespeare and is an associate director of the Shakespeare Workshop in London.

He says he brings an “English approach” to his direction. When it comes to Shakespeare, the English approach may turn out to be enlightening.
