Seattle University trustees have approved a proposal to apply for membership in the National Collegiate Athletic Association at the Division III level. Thursday’s 18-3 vote is part of a plan by Seattle and nine other NAIA schools to form a Northwest Conference of Independent Colleges in the NCAA.

The other private schools are Whitworth College, Pacific Lutheran University, University of Puget Sound, Whitman College in Washington and George Fox College, Lewis & Clark College, Linfield College, Pacific University and Willamette University of Oregon.
