Pacific Ports Export Record Grain Volume
Pacific ports exported a record 1.245 billion bushels of grain in 1995, accounting for most of the nation’s 37 percent jump in export grain sales, a federal agency said.
Grain exports out of Portland, Vancouver, Wash., and other Pacific ports rose from 742,000 bushels in 1994, exceeding the previous record of 1.05 billion bushels in 1989, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration.
Total U.S. grain exports grew from 3.45 billion bushels to 4.72 billion bushels in 1995. Nearly 80 percent of that growth came through Pacific ports, which capitalized on booming sales to China and improvements in inland rail service. , DataTimes
