Africa To Hold 2006 World Cup
The World Cup will be played in Africa for the first time, FIFA president Joao Havelange told a Rio daily in an interview.
“Africa’s time has come,” Havelange told Jornal do Brasil in announcing that the event will come to Africa in 2006.
The Brazilian world soccer chief said he will officially make the announcement on his January trip to South Africa for the Cup of Nations. South Africa will be a top contender to host the 2006 World Cup, he said.
