Oregon Starts 20-0, Thumps Zags Women

Betty Ann Boeving scored 20 points, leading three Oregon players in double figures, as the Ducks defeated Gonzaga 83-45 on Tuesday night in a nonconference women’s basketball game in Eugene, Ore.

Oregon (8-2) jumped out to a 20-0 advantage, holding Gonzaga scoreless for almost the first 7 minutes of the game, on its way to a 40-13 halftime lead.

The Ducks led by as many 44 points late in the second half with Arianne Boyer adding 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Gonzaga (1-10), which dropped its eighth consecutive game, was led by Joy Pauley’s 12 points.

The Ducks shot 61 from field during the second half. Gonzaga was able to shoot only 27 percent from the field for the game.

Gonzaga’s next game is a home non-conference contest against Eastern Washington on Saturday night.

Oregon returns to action Friday at Corvallis against No. 12 Oregon State in a Pacific-10 Conference opener.
