Workshops To Explain River Protection Plans

From Staff And Wire Reports

Two conservation groups will hold workshops in North Idaho next week to explain two river protection plans, and drum up support for them.

The 1996 Legislature will consider approving a revised Priest River Basin water plan, which would designate three additional state protected streams; and the North Fork Clearwater Basin water plan, which designates nine protected streams.

Idaho Rivers United and Trout Unlimited, sponsors of the workshops, also will argue against what they say are attempts to gut Idaho’s minimum stream flow law and to allow hydropower development on the North Fork of the Payette River.

The 7 p.m. “citizen lobby workshops” will be held Monday at the Idaho Department of Fish and Game office, 2750 Kathleen Ave., Coeur d’Alene; Tuesday, at 915 Poplar Street upstairs, Sandpoint; and Jan. 11, at the Lewiston Community Center.
