Nic’s Streak Comes To Halt After 44 Matches
Coeur d’Alene-North Idaho College’s wrestling team saw its 44-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of Northern Montana 24-21 Thursday night at Christianson Gym.
NIC, the No. 1 ranked team in the latest NJCAA poll, lost it last three matches on pins.
“We looked like a team that took Christmas vacation off,” NIC coach John Owen said. “You can’t give up 18 points in the last three matches and expect to beat someone like North Montana. It was a tough loss for us, but you have to give them a lot of credit. We looked awful tired out there.”
Northern Montana is ranked No. 3 in the NAIA.
Senior captain Dan DeKaye started the rally for Northern Montana with a pin at 177. Simon White (190) and Mike Leinwand (Hvy.) followed with pins to give Northern Montana the win after trailing 21-6.
NIC’s Jason Moaney (167) won by a technical fall to improve to 12-4 on the season.
