Couple Accused Of Two Carjackings In Cda

Winda Benedetti Staff Writer

Two North Idaho transients are in jail, accused of forcing a woman out of a pickup truck Wednesday night and driving away.

It is the pair’s second Coeur d’Alene carjacking in less than a week, according to police.

Monte C. Randall, 31, and Suzanne E. Cox, 34, were each charged with two counts of robbery Thursday.

Lindy Lemburg and his girlfriend, Stacie Phillips, drove the pickup to Gittel Grocery on Government Way at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

Lemburg went into the store, leaving Phillips in the pickup.

Randall then allegedly jumped into the driver’s seat and ordered Phillips to get out.

When she refused, Cox pulled the surprised woman out of the truck, police said.

The suspects then drove off, with Lemburg and another store customer giving chase in a second car.

While the cars were moving, Lemburg, seated in the passenger seat, managed to grab Randall through the open truck window. He hung on for about 30 feet, according to a police report.

A short time later, police caught up to the suspects and made the arrests.

Police said Randall and Cox are responsible for a similar carjacking Jan. 5 outside Mad Mary’s restauraunt on Sherman Avenue.

At about 10 p.m., John T. Helmbrecht and Charlotte Bouley were getting in their car after picking up a meal.

“Get out of here, we’re taking your car,” Randall allegedly told the two, according to a police report.

Thinking that the man had a gun, Helmbrecht and Bouley did as they were told, police said.
