Craig Asks Gingrich To Issue Apology
Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, is calling on Newt Gingrich to apologize to U.S. Rep. Helen Chenoweth for canceling an appearance at a Boise fund-raiser to punish her for a vote.
Craig, in a statement issued Thursday from McCall, Idaho, called U.S. House Speaker Gingrich’s move “a pretty tacky thing to do.”
“In Newt’s revolution, Helen has been one of his most steadfast and loyal foot soldiers,” Craig said. “The bottom line is this: Helen voted her conscience. Newt should be the first person to recognize the importance of that, and needs to reschedule his trip to Idaho.”
Chenoweth was one of 17 members of Congress who voted against a measure to send furloughed federal employees back to work.
