Post Falls Puts Lights At Deadly Crosswalk
The City of Post Falls has installed street lights on the crosswalk at the Factory Outlet Mall where Shannon Wilhelm was killed Dec. 29.
Two other crosswalks at the mall also were lighted by Friday.
Other improvements to increase pedestrian safety at the mall will be discussed at Tuesday’s Post Falls City Council meeting.
Wilhelm, a 19-year-old mall worker and mother, was crossing the street at dusk when a pickup truck accidentally struck her in the crosswalk that spans the five lanes of Riverbend Avenue.
Other mall workers reported close calls of their own on the crosswalks, which were marked previously only with yellow caution signs.
In other business Tuesday, the council will swear in citizens to serve on various committees and boards.
In addition, the council will hold a public hearing on a local improvement district in the Pleasantview and Fifth Street business district. Another public hearing is scheduled for a 42-acre annexation at Highway 41 and Mullan for commercial development.
The council also will hear draft ordinances to outlaw truancy and runaways, to set penalties for false vehicle alarms, and the disposal of household waste in park trash bins.
The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. with a workshop on zoning and subdivision ordinance changes in the council chambers. , DataTimes
