Vandals Have A Dark Night In Lopsided Loss To Bengals

The power went out at Holt Arena for about 30 minutes at halftime of the Idaho-Idaho State men’s basketball game on Friday night.

Idaho’s power outage lasted roughly the entire game.

The Vandals shot 32 percent in the first half and 39 percent in the second and lost 74-57 to ISU in the Big Sky Conference opener for both teams.

The electrical system at Holt Arena was recently restructured and nobody was sure what caused the blackout, which hit with the Vandals trailing 32-25 at intermission.

After electricity was restored, ISU went on a 14-2 run in the first four minutes of the second half to generate a 46-27 lead. The Bengals’ Rob Preston, who had 21 points, hit a pair of layups in the spurt.

Guard Reggie Rose led the Vandals (5-6 overall) with 14 points, but he committed 10 turnovers. Eddie Turner added 13 and Jason Jackman scored 12.

Nate Green, Shabaka Lands and Ron Harwell each scored 12 for the Bengals (4-7).

ISU iced the win at the foul line as Preston and Lands each went 4 of 4 in the final minutes.

Idaho, which visits at Boise State tonight, tied a season-high with 27 turnovers.
