Giants Sign Cuban Star

Pitcher Osvaldo Fernandez, a former star with the Cuban national baseball team who defected to the Dominican Republic, stunned several major-league suitors by agreeing to terms with the San Francisco Giants.

Fernandez, 29, is believed to have struck a threeyear deal with the Giants and could join the starting rotation immediately.
