Lesotho’s King Dies In Car Plunge
King Moshoeshoe II, a resilient leader who twice regained his throne after being deposed, died Monday when his car plunged over an embankment. He was 57.
His death came just as this southern Africa country appeared to be overcoming the turbulence that has marked its politics since gaining independence from Britain in 1966.
Prime Minister Ntsu Mokhele declared a national state of mourning until Moshoeshoe’s burial, expected this weekend. Flags were ordered flown at half-staff.
