Police Traffic Team Is Watching You
The Coeur d’Alene Police Department’s CARE Team will patrol Harrison and 15th streets today during their weekly emphasis patrol.
From 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the officers will watch Harrison Avenue between Fourth and 15th streets and 15th Street from Interstate 90 to Sherman.
They will look for drivers who speed, make illegal turns and break other traffic laws, said officer Randy Miller.
The CARE Team, Community Accident Reduction through Education, is made up of four officers. They focus on reducing accidents in the city of Coeur d’Alene through both warnings and citations.
The hope their weekly emphasis patrols will educate drivers about the hazards of the areas they are patrolling.
Fourth Street and Harrison had the 12th highest number of traffic accidents in Coeur d’Alene between 1992 and 1994. There were 17 accidents there during that time, Miller said.
During last week’s patrol, the CARE Team stopped 75 drivers. About 90 percent of the drivers were given warnings, the rest were given citations, said Officer Joe Denton.
