Compiled From Wire Services

The Boston Red Sox, already loaded with potential designated hitters and right fielders, are considering signing free agent Darryl Strawberry, who has interest in the team, according to published reports.

“We’re going to explore the possibility and see if there is a fit there for our team,” Red Sox general manager Dan Duquette said. “He has power. We know he can hit.”

First baseman John Jaha and the Milwaukee Brewers agreed to a $1.05 million, one-year contract, more than four times his 1995 salary of $229,000.

Outfielder Derrick May and the Houston Astros agreed to a $750,000, one-year contract.

Free-agent reliever Bob Patterson and the Chicago Cubs agreed to a one-year contract worth $550,000.

Colorado Rockies second baseman Eric Young will be sidelined 2-3 months after breaking a bone in his right hand taking off-season batting practice.
