Iel Seeds Set For Girls’ Postseason

Seeding is set for the Inland Empire League’s postseason girls basketball tournament next week.

Tonight’s final IEL game - league champion Sandpoint (15-2, 7-0 league) at Coeur d’Alene (4-15, 0-7) - has no bearing on seeding for the A-1 Region I Tournament.

Last-place Coeur d’Alene will travel to next-to-last Post Falls (11-8, 3-5) on Tuesday in a loser-out playoff game to decide the fourth and final seed in the state-qualifying regional tourney. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.

Post Falls posted easy victories over CdA (58-41 at Post Falls, 57-39 at CdA) in the regular season.

The tourney begins Thursday with first-round games at Sandpoint and runner-up Lake City (11-7, 5-3). Sandpoint will take on the Post Falls-CdA winner while defending state champion Lake City will meet No. 3 Lewiston (10-7, 4-4). Both games begin at 7 p.m.

The tournament moves to Sandpoint High School on Saturday, a change from the original schedule. CdA, which was scheduled to host the balance of the tourney, had a conflict with a boys game. The regional will be held next year at CdA.

Thursday’s winners will meet in the tourney title game Saturday, with the winner advancing to state. Thursday’s losers will meet in a loser-out game with the winner moving on to play loser of the title game on Tuesday.

The regional runner-up advances the following Saturday to Grangeville to meet the fourth-place finisher from District III (Boise area) for a berth to state.
