Kellogg Holds Off Lc, 62-56

Prep basketball

The Kellogg High School boys basketball team would be undefeated and in first place if it played in the A-1 Inland Empire League.

In its own conference, the Intermountain League, Kellogg is tied for second behind league-leading Moscow. Maybe the Wildcats are in the wrong league.

The A-2 Wildcats posted their fourth victory in as many tries against an IEL team Tuesday, knocking off the second-ranked and IEL-leading Lake City Timberwolves 62-56 at Andrews Gymnasium in Kellogg.

Kellogg (10-2 overall) built a nine-point lead midway through the fourth quarter and held off a late Timberwolves rally.

LC (11-4) pulled within three points but couldn’t get any closer in the final 4 minutes.

Kellogg’s Jeremy Behm and Brian Carlson combined to make 6 of 7 from the foul line in the last minute to secure the victory.

Casey Fisher led the Wildcats with 22 points and eight rebounds.

Behm added 11 points.

Mike Asper led LC with 20 points and seven rebounds and Scott Hoover added 16 points. Asper and Hoover combined to make seven of LC’s nine 3-pointers in the first half.

Kellogg led 32-29 at halftime.

The loss snapped LC’s seven-game winning streak. The T-Wolves had won 10 of their last 11 games.

LC played its third game without leading scorer Jon Chatfield (24.3 points per game).

Chatfield, out with a stress fracture in his right foot, could return Saturday when LC travels to Post Falls.

Canceled games

Three games were canceled Tuesday in North Idaho:

Selkirk (Wash.) at Priest River girls;

Logos at Lakeside girls;

Sandpoint junior varsity at Falls Christian boys.

The Selkirk-Priest River and Logos-Lakeside games most likely will not be rescheduled because the teams are in the final week of the regular season.

The Falls Christian game could be rescheduled at a later date.
