Zimmers Begin Countdown

From Wire Reports

The atmosphere at the Zimmer household has been one of amazement and confusion.

Mike Zimmer is going to the Super Bowl, and his three children - Adam, Marki and Corri - say it’s the neatest thing in the world.

Mike Zimmer is going to the Super Bowl, and his wife, Vikki, doesn’t really know what to do.

“It’s great, but it’s been kind of a pain trying to get the logistics of everything down,” said Zimmer, the Cowboys’ secondary coach.

“My wife was asking me what the weather is going to be, wanting to know what kind of clothes to bring. I told her to look in the paper and see what the weather will be like.”

The forecast is clearing for Zimmer, 39. In his second season with the Cowboys, including his first as defensive backs coach, Zimmer has readied a unit that, through injury and suspension, has had five starting cornerbacks. Its most expensive one, $35 million man Deion Sanders, made it to the starting lineup Oct. 29, and since then, the Cowboys have held six of eleven opponents below 200 yards passing.

“Through most of my career, I can’t remember when I have not had healthy defensive backs,” said Zimmer, the defensive coordinator at Washington State from 1989-1993. “It’s been rough trying to get guys in and out. It’s been a long grind. To do the things that we’ve done, to come together like we’ve done, I’m glad.”

Dodgers ponder NFL team

The Los Angeles Dodgers said they have formed an alliance with a development company to study the feasibility of acquiring an NFL expansion franchise and building a football stadium. The Dodgers said last September the idea of building a football stadium on the 300-acre Dodger property appealed to them.
