Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: I have a great way to recycle the paper and plastic bags you get from the grocery stores. When I’ve saved a lot of them, I take them to the food pantry at my church.

Food pantries need bags to sack food they give to the needy but can’t afford to buy them because they are expensive.

I also volunteer at the pantry and we have tried buying the bags and also tried getting grocery stores to donate bags. - Sharon Walters, Houston, Texas

Dear Heloise: Here is a hint for those going on vacation and afraid that frozen food will thaw and refreeze. If you own an electric alarm clock with battery backup, take the batteries out and leave the clock plugged in the outlet. Upon returning, check to see if it is flashing. If so, check the freezer for any spoiled food. - Lillian S., Mansfield, Ohio
