(15) UCLA 99, USC 72 Charles O’Bannon scored a career-high 27 points as the Bruins rebounded from their first Pac-10 Conference loss by routing the visiting Trojans in a heated game between the crosstown rivals that produced two ejections.
UCLA guard Kris Johnson and USC forward Jaha Wilson were tossed out for unsportsmanlike conduct after a verbal confrontation on the Bruins’ baseline with 17:31 remaining in the game.
The Bruins (13-4) were already in a feisty mood as a result of having their 10-game winning streak snapped in an 88-79 defeat at Arizona on Saturday. The loss was their first in conference play, but they remain in first place with a 6-1 Pac-10 mark.
The game against the Trojans essentially was over at halftime when UCLA led 50-30 and cruised the rest of the way.
The Trojans (10-8, 3-4) never got closer than 14 points after a 9-0 run brought them to 62-48 with 12:20 to play.
Brandon Martin led USC with 22 points and Stais Boseman added 17.
The ejections didn’t hurt either team, although UCLA missed Johnson more. He scored 14 points in the first half, while Wilson had 2.
