Lola Howell Kellogg

Memorial service for Lola M. Howell, 69, will be today at 10 a.m. at Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg. Inurnment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Ms. Howell, who was born in Oklahoma, died Wednesday.

She moved to the Silver Valley from Oklahoma in 1959 and worked as a bartender at Wanda’s Deluxe Bar in Kellogg.

Survivors include a son, Virgil Howell; two daughters, Shirley Wilson of Las Vegas, Nev., and Carol Norton of Oregon; a sister, Gladys Wagner of Arkansas; and eight grandchildren.

Ida Smith Coeur d’Alene

Service for Ida M. Smith, 84, will be held later in Burlington, Iowa. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Smith, who was born in Burlington, died Wednesday.

She lived in Burlington before moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1994 to be near her brother.

Mrs. Smith enjoyed bowling and needlework.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Louie.

Survivors include a brother, Albert Fye of Coeur d’Alene; and two nephews, Fred and Basil, both of Iowa.

Marie Perin Priest River, Idaho

No public service in remembrance of Marie Perin, 73, is planned. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home of Priest River is in charge of arrangements

Mrs. Perin, a lifetime area resident, died Monday.

She was born in Spirit Lake, Idaho, and later moved to Priest River.

Mrs. Perin enjoyed raising appaloosa horses and was active in fund-raising for Kaniksu Medical Clinic.

She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, in 1992.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to the Priest River Library Fund.

Cora McGowan Spokane

Memorial service for Cora B. McGowan, 72, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home.

Mrs. McGowan, who was born in Wellpinit, Wash., died Jan. 16.

She graduated from Wellpinit High School.

She worked for Fred S. James Insurance in Spokane and retired with 20 years of service from Continental Insurance. She also retired from Courtesy Communications as an operator.

Mrs. McGowan was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.

She is survived by one son, Rodney McGowan of Greenacres; two brothers, Charles Tandy of Wellpinit and Everett Tandy of Spokane; two sisters, Ellen Jensen of Hauser Lake, Idaho, and Marjorie Martin of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Wilma Barbaglia Spokane

Service for Wilma M. Barbaglia, 88, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Barbaglia died Tuesday.

She was born in Rosalia, Wash., and graduated from Rosalia High School.

A Spokane resident since 1945, she was past matron of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 163.

Survivors include one son, William Johnson of Spokane; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Gilbert Hall Airway Heights

Service for Gilbert R. Hall, 66, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Airway Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3386. Burial will take place in Richwood, W.Va, at a later time. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hall, who was born in Richwood, died last Saturday. He had retired from the Air Force.

Survivors include six daughters, Celia Hall-Thur, Teressa Brown, Donna Lehnertz, Diana Estrada, Lana Johnson and Linda Jones; one son, Melvin Hall; two brothers, four sisters; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Joanne Bristlin Post Falls

Service for Joanne Joyce Bristlin, 61, will be today at 11 a.m. at the Rose Chapel at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home in Spokane, 2203 N. Division. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs. Bristlin, a former Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

She was raised and educated in Pullman, and moved to Spokane in 1989. She later moved to Post Falls.

She loved to dance and travel and was a member of the Veterans Auxiliary in Hillyard.

Mrs. Bristlin was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Steele.

Survivors include her husband, Al; four sons, Robert Steele of Wenatchee, Brad Steele of Kennewick, Douglas Bristlin of Spokane and Mark Bristlin of Post Falls; five daughters, Terisha Hedrick of Colville, Wash., Cindy Draper and Cindy Westberg, both of Spokane, Annette Block of Montana, and Susie Hodges of Pullman; and her mother, Dorothy Stelting of Spokane.

Lynn Hoffman Post Falls

Service for Lynn L. Hoffman, 79, will be today at 1 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery.

Mr. Hoffman, who was born in Dayton, Wash., died Wednesday.

He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II.

He moved to Post Falls in 1955 and later worked for West Coast Grocery Warehouse.

Mr. Hoffman enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

He was preceded in death by two wives, Ollie and Alice.

Survivors include three sons, Dale of California, Robert of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Elmer of Post Falls; one daughter, Sandra Strobel of Post Falls; one stepson, Arthur Stevens of Rathdrum; one stepdaughter, Sharon Odell of Spokane; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

DeWayne Miller Osburn, Idaho

Memorial service for DeWayne Miller, 44, will be today at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Miller died Jan. 20.

Survivors include two sons, Ty and Beau, and one daughter, Leah Miller, all of Coeur d’Alene; his father, Eldon Miller of Coeur d’Alene; two sisters, Arlene Bryant of Coeur d’Alene and Jeannette Arveson of Hayden Lake, Idaho; three stepbrothers, Frank Dearing of Deer Park, and Don and Jim Dearing, both of Spokane; and a stepsister, Sharon Lasswell of Sacramento.

Dora Meyer Ritzville, Wash.

Service for Dora Meyer, 86, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Trinity Methodist Church in Ritzville. Burial will follow at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home of Ritzville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Meyer, a lifelong resident of Ritzville, died Wednesday.

She graduated from Ritzville High School in 1926.

She was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church and the Ralston Grange.

Her husband, Max Meyer, died in 1975.

Survivors include two daughters, Christine Roberts of Coulee City, Wash., and Gretchen Snyder of Ritzville; two brothers, Frederick Kembel of Chelan, Wash., and Paul Kembel of Spokane; one sister, Kathryn Schauer of Emmett, Idaho; and four grandchildren.

Robert Petty Spokane

Service for Robert Scott Petty, 43, is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Petty, who was born in Kalispell, Mont., died Thursday.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union and the United Steel Workers of America. He worked for the city of Spokane Sewer Department for nine years.

He most recently was employed by Brown Building Materials as an equipment operator.

Survivors include one brother, Dirk Petty of Bellingham; two stepbrothers, Craig Menteer of Missoula and Jeff Menteer of Edmonds, Wash.; and three sisters, Terry Lee Watkins of Jacksonville, Fla., Tamara Menteer of Bothell, Wash., and Lisa Daley of Spokane.

Edward Walden Spokane

A memorial service for Edward M. Walden, 89, is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2405 E. 57th. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Walden, who was born in Sprague, Wash., died Tuesday.

His early life was spent in Peck, Idaho. He moved to Spokane, where he engaged in carpentry with his father.

In the late 1920s he moved to Republic, Wash., where he worked for the Forest Service. Later he worked for Knob Hill Mines as a hoist operator.

He retired in 1975.

He was a lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Gretchen Walden; one daughter, Patricia Gendron of Kent, Wash.; one son, George Walden of Republic; one brother, Ernest Walden of New Orleans; and six grandchildren.

George Derr Spokane

A memorial and celebration of the life of George Derr, 76, is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Derr, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Dec. 12.

He was a graduate of Gonzaga Prep and Gonzaga University.

He served in World War II with the Alamo Scouts and also served in the Korean War. He retired from the Army as a major.

Mr. Derr was a charter member of the Inland Empire Athletic Officials Association and was a referee in high school and college sports.

At his retirement, he had officiated for 44 years.

He retired as a schoolteacher from Spokane School District 81.

He was a member of the Liberty Lake Men’s Club and was active in golf with the Over the Hill Gang at Liberty Lake.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Derr; one daughter, Dee Hubbard of Anchorage, Alaska; one brother, Mark Derr; five sisters; and two grandsons.

Sharon Grove Renton, Wash.

Service for Sharon E. Grove, 50, is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Messiah Lutheran Church. Faull Renton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Grove, who was born in Spokane, died Jan. 15.

She graduated from North Central High School in 1963 and Mr. Lee’s Beauty School in 1964.

Mrs. Grove was a member of Beta Sigma Phi.

She was active in cancer support groups in Seattle and Spokane.

Survivors include her husband, Tom Grove of Renton; two sons, Troy Grove and Todd Grove, both of Spokane; three daughters, Cindi Grove of Chanhassen, Minn., Cyndy Jackson of Salem, Ore., and Dawn Smith of Spokane; her mother, Hilda Westrom of Spokane; one brother, Gary Westrom of Salem; and eight grandchildren.

Alice Mason Spokane

Memorial service for Alice “June” Mason, 79, is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mason, who was born in Canada, died Tuesday.

A homemaker, she was a graduate of Rogers High School.

She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and the Eagles Lodge Auxiliary 2.

Her husband, Edgar Mason, died in 1987.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Mazzarelli of Spokane; three stepdaughters, Kathleen Mason of Spokane, Ilene Conway of Auburn, Wash., and Dee Emerson of Kent, Wash.; one stepson, Bob Mason of Spokane; one brother, Jim Davis of Spokane; eight step-grandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

Phillip Carr Spokane

Service for Phillip Richard Carr, 62, is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. today at Dishman Baptist Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Carr, who was born in Staples, Minn., died Jan. 17.

He owned AA Refrigeration and worked in appliance repair.

Survivors include four sons, Don Klump, Steven Carr, Earl Carr and Richard Robinson, all of Spokane; three daughters, Louise Carr and Susan McCullough, both of Spokane, and Colleen Beers of Lake Oddessa, Mich.; one brother, William Sylvester of Spokane; one stepbrother, Richard Douglas of Montana; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Alvin Durheim Spokane

Service for Alvin G. Durheim, 74, is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Thornhill’s Chapel of the Valley. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Durheim, who was born in Ellendale, N.D., died Wednesday.

He served in the Army in the European Theater in World War II.

He was a cold-roll operator for Kaiser Aluminum.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Durheim; one daughter, Phyllis Bewley of Spokane; three brothers, Don Durheim of Spokane, Elmer Durheim of Troy, Idaho, and Roy Durheim of Seattle; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Thomas Leavey Spokane

Funeral Mass for Thomas E. Leavey, 101, is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Leavey, who was born in Golden, Colo., died Sunday. He was a Army veteran of World War I.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

His wife, Mary Leavey, died previously.

Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Goehrs of Spokane; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Mary Stolp Chattaroy

Funeral Mass for Mary Stolp, 85, is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colbert. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Colville, Wash. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Stolp, who was born in Sanders, Idaho, died Tuesday.

She graduated from Colville High School.

Her husband, Gus Stolp, died in 1984.

She is survived by her sister, Madeline Peterson of Chattaroy.

Antoinette Goforth Spokane

Memorial service for Antoinette L. Goforth, 48, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday at Fairmount’s Sunset Chapel.

Ms. Goforth, who was born in Kellogg, died Tuesday.

She was a graduate of Rogers High School and Spokane Community College.

She had been employed by Spokane Transit Authority as a driver. She was a member of Amalgamated Transit Union No. 1015.

Survivors include one daughter, Crystal Gray of Grapeview, Wash.; one son, Nick Gray of Spokane; her mother, Carmela Goforth of Spokane; two sisters, Irene Goforth of Hoquiam, Wash., and Kathleen Dituri of Spokane; and two grandsons.

Clifford Schnider Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Clifford John Schnider, 66, will be held later in Cottonwood, Idaho. Yates Funeral Home of Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Schnider, who was born in Lewiston, died Monday.

He was raised in Cottonwood and later moved to Lewiston. He worked at Coca-Cola Bottling and the Mason Ehrman Co.

He also had lived in Hope, Idaho, and Sandpoint, where he worked as a truck driver. He also worked for the Pend Oreille Cheese Co. and owned his own tree farm.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene in the early 1980s, and retired in the Wolf Lodge area.

Mr. Schnider was active in the National Wildlife Federation and began the Citizen’s Against Poaching program in Idaho.

Survivors include two sons, Calvin of Oregon and Monte of Vancouver, Wash.; three daughters, Debra Reeves of Asotin, Wash., Shannon Shea of Sacramento and Leah Shea of Clarkston, Wash.; his mother, Lillian Schnider of Cottonwood; three brothers, Clinton of Weiser, Idaho, Del of Asotin and Errol of Oregon; and nine grandchildren.

Carl Ethridge Wallace

Service for Carl Franklin Ethridge, 69, will be Monday in Shelton, Wash. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ethridge, who was born in South Bend, Wash., died Wednesday.

He served in the Army during the Korean War and had lived in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, before moving to Coeur d’Alene last year.

He was a member of the Mormon Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 17 years, Juanita.

Survivors include a son, Robert Herr of Wallace; two daughters, Martha Ethridge of Wallace and Cecil Herr of Louisiana; a brother, Isom of Sumner, Wash.; and 16 grandchildren.
