WSU: 0-21 Against Stanford
College women
Sixth-ranked Stanford overcame poor shooting from the field by making the most of its free throw chances in a 66-50 victory over Washington State on Saturday night at Stanford, Calif.
Kate Starbird and Naomi Mulitauaopel scored 18 and 15 points, respectively, and had 10 rebounds each to lead Stanford (15-2, 8-0 Pac-10), which is 21-0 against WSU.
Stanford entered the game making just 66 percent of its free throws but the Cardinal hit 27-of-30 against Washington State.
Washington State (13-5, 4-3) outshot Stanford from the field 34 percent to 31 percent, but made only 8-of-14 shots from the foul line.
“The difference in the game was we had 14 free throws. They had 30 and we didn’t even hit ours,” said Jenni Ruff, whose 21 points led Washington State.
Stanford, the only unbeaten team in league play, also dominated the boards, outrebounding the Cougars 53-30.
“We got some quality shots but we rushed too many of them,” Washington State coach Harold Rhodes said. “Offensively, though, we were out of sync.”
