Floyd Pockets Big Money

Ray Floyd won an unprecedented third consecutive Senior Skins title when he tapped in a 3-inch putt at the 15th hole, giving him eight skins and a two-day total of $240,000.

Floyd, in raising his Senior Skins winnings to $960,000 over a four-year span, trailed Jim Colbert by $120,000 through 14 holes of the tournament at the Mauna Lani Resort’s South Course in Kawaihae, Hawaii.

But at the day’s second par 3, a 199-yard hole over water onto a peninsula, Floyd’s shot gently plopped next to the cup to set up the tap-in, which eventually gave him the title.

Ian Woosnam, who almost retired from golf because of a bad back last year, started the new European season by winning the Johnnie Walker Classic in a playoff with Scotsman Andrew Coltart in Singapore.

The 25-year-old Coltart had seven birdies in the final round, including five straight beginning at the sixth hole, and equalled the Tanah Merah Club course record of 65 for a 16-under total of 272.

The team of Bruce Devlin and Larry Ziegler birdied the last three holes to win the $200,000 Treasure Coast Classic in Vero Beach, Fla., by a stroke.

Following their only bogey in 36 holes, when both missed 3-foot putts at No. 15 in the scrambles format, Devlin and Zeigler recovered to finish with a 12-under-par 60 for a two-day total of 20-under 124.
