At Syracuse, N.Y., Eric Eberz’s 3-pointer 51 seconds into overtime gave the Wildcats (17-3, 8-2 Big East) the lead for good as Villanova held off the Orangemen (14-6, 5-5).

Syracuse, which lost its first home game of the season, failed to score a field goal in the extra period and missed four of eight free throws.

At Blacksburg, Va., Damon Watlington scored 18 points and Ace Custis had 17 points and 12 rebounds as the Hokies (14-2, 7-1 Atlantic 10) beat the Hawks (7-8, 2-4).

St. Joseph’s closed to within 73-70 with 3 minutes remaining, but the Hawks committed turnovers on their next two possessions.
