Weekend Fire Kills 14 Racehorses

From Staff And Wire Reports

A weekend fire at the horse barns at the Bannock County Fairground has killed 14 race horses worth up to $5,000 each.

The fire apparently started in a tack room early Saturday and the Chubbuck Fire Department battled the blaze until 6 a.m. There were no injuries.

“The fire appears to have been electrical in nature, and they’ve ruled out any suspicious activity,” said Fair Board President Rick Phillips.

Eleven of the horses that died were race horses and three were cutter, or straight track, racers. They were individually owned but were being held for training by two local trainers.
