Steven Bishop Receives Commendation Certificate

Marine Lance Cpl. Steven Bishop, son of Beverly Bishop of Coeur d’Alene, recently received a Certificate of Commendation while assigned with 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Bishop, a 1991 Coeur d’Alene High School graduate, was recognized for consistently performing his duties in an exemplary and professional manner. He has served with the Marine Corp since January 1992.

Elizabeth A. Beavers recently enlisted in the Army’s Delayed Entry Program as a telecommunications operations chief, which allows her to join the Army and delay her departure for up to one year while securing her guarantee.

Beavers, daughter of William and Wilma Tedrow of Moyie Springs, Idaho, will leave for advanced individual training in Fort Lee, Va., in March. She lives in Spokane with her husband, Howard, and is a 1988 graduate of Liberty High School in Spangle.

Mary E. Marano, daughter of Gene and Paula Marano, Coeur d’Alene, recently graduated from the first class of AmeriCorps’ National Civilian Community Corps at the Naval Training Center in San Diego.

Travis Arnold, Priest River, Idaho, recently enlisted in the Army as a medical supply specialist and will depart for Korea next month.

Arnold, the son of Jennifer Arnold of Priest River, is a 1995 graduate of Pend Oreille Alternative High School.

Jesse Koester, of Boy Scout Troop 13 and a sophomore at Falls Christian Academy, recently received the Eagle Scout award.

Koester’s Eagle project helped the Bureau of Land Management improve services at the Killarney Lake Campground, including installation of campsite numbers, a steel fee-collection box and an information bulletin board.

Koester, son of Martin and Peggy Koester of Post Falls, has also earned his BSA Lifeguard award, was a staff member in training at Camp Easton on Lake Coeur d’Alene, and became a member of Order of the Arrow. He recently participated in his fifth annual Klondike Derby sponsored by the Boy Scouts.

His troop is sponsored by American Legion Post 143 in Post Falls.

Koester has played violin with the Spokane Youth Symphony for three years and is a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, where he plays the saxophone. He also works as a paper carrier for the Coeur d’Alene Press.
