Seles Joins First Fed Cup

Monica Seles, Mary Joe Fernandez, Lindsay Davenport and Gigi Fernandez were selected for the U.S. Fed Cup tennis team that will play Japan later this month.

Seles, co-ranked No. 1 with Steffi Graf, will make her Fed Cup debut in the semifinal series July 13-14 in Nagoya, Japan. Seles was born in Yugoslavia, but has lived in the United States for many years and became an American citizen in 1994.

The United States has won 14 Fed Cup titles, more than any other nation. Last year, the Americans lost to Spain in the final.
