Foreman Weighs Return

Associated Press

George Foreman plans to return to the ring.

“I probably will fight again,” the 47-year-old former heavyweight champion said in today’s editions of The New York Times. “And it probably will be in Portland, Ore., sometime in September.”

Foreman, in New York to promote his new cookbook, said he would consider challenging Mike Tyson, the WBC champion. But he refused to disclose whom he might fight in September.

Foreman has not fought since April 22, 1995, when he won a controversial decision over Axel Schulz to retain his IBF title. Foreman was stripped of the crown for inactivity.

He unofficially retired, but has been mentioned as an opponent for Tyson in what would be a huge gate attraction. Foreman knocked out Michael Moorer in April 1994 to win the IBF crown. Last month, Moorer beat Schulz to capture the title.
