Coach Needs Transplant
Morgan Wootten, one of the nation’s top prep basketball coaches during a 40-year career at DeMatha High School, needs a liver transplant in the next two weeks or he will die, his doctor said.
Wootten, 65, has been placed on the highest priority for a liver and will be given the next one that becomes available in the Baltimore area that matches his blood type, said Dr. Paul Thuluvath, his physician at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Thuluvath said Wootten should be getting a new liver within the next week. “The maximum we can wait is two weeks,” he said.
Wootten had been diagnosed several years ago with primary biliary cirrhosis, an autoimmune disease rare in men.
