Winners Announced In Fire Prevention Contest

Elementary school winners in the Shoshone County Fire Prevention Cooperative’s Radio Spot Writing Contest were honored last month. Winners and their schools are as follows:

John Mullan Elementary School; Steve Garitone, Tiera Hiatt and Eric Knapp.

Canyon Elementary School; Heather Byers, Cyle Hanan and Jamie Marshall.

Sunnyside Elementary School; Janea Kelso.

Students were selected from approximately 300 entries countywide that contained written safety messages about fire prevention.

Members of the cooperative, including the U.S. Forest Service, Idaho Department of Lands and Shoshone County Fire District Nos. 1,2 and 3, visited all Silver Valley elementary schools during the spring fire prevention program.

They presented safety and prevention tips to 850 children in grades K-3.

She was presented with a photo album with a silver frame and several novelty gifts, including a miniature silver Corvette to tool around in, a plastic cruise ship to sail around Lake Coeur d’Alene, and a rocking chair made of Popsicle sticks to rest her bones.

Sandy Shannon was named by her peers as the Employee of the Month for May at Templin’s Best Western Resort in Post Falls.

Shannon, who started working at Templin’s in 1993, started as a frontdesk clerk and phone operator and has since been promoted to night front-desk supervisor. She was chosen based on her dependability, strong work ethic and willingness to help.
