Governor Candidates Crowding Into Spokane

From Staff Reports

Three would-be governors will have to be careful not to bump into one another in Spokane this morning when they make campaign stops in or near Riverfront Park.

Republicans Norm Maleng and Jim Waldo might even have a chance to wave to each other. They’ll both be at Cavanaugh’s Inn at the Park discussing major campaign initiatives.

Maleng, the King County prosecutor, will be offering ideas on curbing juvenile crime at a 7:30 a.m. breakfast speech. He’s making a campaign swing through Eastern Washington.

Waldo, a Tacoma attorney, will be discussing health care reform at a 9 a.m. news conference.

At 11:15 a.m., the campaign trail moves a few blocks south, to the Big Red Wagon in Riverfront Park for Seattle Mayor Norm Rice. The Democratic candidate will be holding a press conference.

Many candidates in the crowded governor’s race are making trips around the state after they file for office. King County Executive Gary Locke, another Democrat, made a stop in Spokane on Monday.

Two more Republican candidates have scheduled Spokane stops next week. State Rep. Dale Foreman will attend a religious service in Riverfront Park on Sunday at 6 p.m. Former state Sen. Ellen Craswell will be the guest on a radio call-in show Monday at 12:30 p.m., on station KSBN.
