The NHL’s New York Rangers signed Bill Berg, a checking forward, who agreed to a three-year contract that will pay him about $400,000 a season. Berg, acquired from Toronto in a trade late last season, had three goals and two assists in 41 games.

A defensive specialist, he plays left wing, primarily, but can also fill in on the right side, where the Rangers are lacking personnel since Pat Verbeek signed as a free agent with Dallas.

Steven King, 27, a right wing who had two goals in seven games for Anaheim last season, signed with the Philadelphia Flyers. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bill Evo resigned as president of the Detroit Red Wings after 10 months with the team.

Florida Panthers team officials said the team will begin looking for a new home unless the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority approves a new Miami Arena lease.
