James Johnson of Spokane (St. George’s), a Bowdoin (Maine) College junior, earned All-American recognition on his third straight trip to the NCAA Division III men’s track and field championships.

Johnson finished a career-best eighth in the 10,000-meter run in 31 minutes, 9.31 seconds, 2 minutes behind the winner. During the season, he set school records in the 10,000 (30:34.69) and 5,000 (15:05.77).

Johnson, who’ll earn his third outdoor track letter to go with three each in indoor track and cross country, will return next year as captain of all three teams for a second straight year.

Michelle Stephens of Spokane received both the Wanda Rhodes Award as the outstanding women’s tennis player and the team captain’s award at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho. , DataTimes
