Margaret Porter Naples, Idaho

Service for Margaret Marie Porter, 69, will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Bonners Ferry (Idaho) Funeral Home. Burial will follow at McArthur Cemetery near Naples.

Mrs. Porter, who was born in Texas, died Sunday.

She attended schools in Texas and New Mexico, later going on to attend cosmetology school and become a beautician.

She had worked in several beauty shops before owning and operating her own salon. She also managed various shops for many years.

Mrs. Porter moved to Naples in 1978.

Survivors include her husband, El Don; son Bill Porter of Coeur d’Alene; brother, Elsie Gordon of California; three sisters, Opal Goforth and Lois Blatenburger, both of California, and Joyce Cole of Oregon; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Lyle Williams Spokane

Graveside service for Lyle R. Williams, 77, will be Thursday at noon at Forest Cemetery, Riverview Section, in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Williams, who was born in North Dakota, died Sunday.

He grew up in Coeur d’Alene and graduated from high school there. He served with the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre after his National Guard Unit was activated.

Mr. Williams moved to Mercer Island, Wash., after his military discharge and was self-employed in the auto parts industry, retiring in 1980.

He moved to Spokane in 1985.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Erma; daughter, Karen Stevens of Spokane; and three grandsons, Randy, Grant and Barton Stevens, all of Spokane.

Roberta Shepherd Spokane

Memorial graveside service for Roberta L. Shepherd, 69, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Weippe, Idaho, Mrs. Shepherd died May 25.

She was a 30-year Spokane resident, and had worked at the White Pine Sash Co.

She is survived by daughters Charlene Benton and Barbara Whitney, both of Rockford; sons James Shepherd of Airway Heights, Raymond Shepherd of Moses Lake, and Roger Shepherd of Spokane; brother Len Cleek of Kailua, Hawaii; sister Helen Cain of Spokane; 21 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Edwin Ruokola Coeur d’Alene

At his request, no service will be held for Edwin Peter Ruokola, 86. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ruokola, who was born in Michigan, died Thursday.

He grew up and attended school in Michigan, later graduating from the University of Illinois with a bachelor of arts degree in engineering.

He worked for Boeing Co. in Seattle for 23 years before retiring and moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1972.

Mr. Ruokola was preceded in death by his wife, Tyyne, in 1987.

Survivors include three nieces, Engrid Varner, Nancy Ring and Irene Kindstrand, and two nephews, Peter and Donald Ruokola, all of Michigan.

Hugh ‘Matt’ Mathany Coeur d’Alene

At his request, no service will be held for Hugh Marion “Matt” Mathany, 79. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mathany, who was born in Portland, died May 29.

He moved to North Idaho in 1968 and was a retired steel worker.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille; two sons, Roger and Gary Mathany, both of California; one daughter, Coleen Aquila of California; eight grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren.
