Car Goes Into River, Driver Mising
A 26-year-old Challis man was missing after his car went off U.S. Highway 93 seven miles south of Salmon and into the Salmon River.
The Lemhi County sheriff’s office said the vehicle was registered to an employee at the Cyprus Thompson Creek Mine, Colin Hardinger.
Officers estimate the accident occurred between 6 and 6:30 a.m. Thursday.
After skid marks were spotted leading into the river, a search was started. The car was found six miles downriver, lodged on a submerged island.
Chief Deputy Sam Slavin said an aerial search over the river turned up nothing Thursday. Crews used drift boats to continue the search.
