Letter Carriers Protesting Policies

From Staff And Wire Reports

Some Spokane letter carriers will be picketing today to protest U.S. Postal Service policies.

The Spokane carriers join others nationally in an informational protest, which will not affect mail delivery, said Steve Schultz, president of the National Association of Letter Carriers Spokane Branch No. 442.

Letter carriers believe a decline in service has resulted from poor policies made at the national level.

For example, Schultz said many carriers are being forced to start later so they don’t deliver mail as early in the day as before.

The postal service isn’t involving employees enough in decision-making and should pay more attention to automation problems that result in poor mail delivery, he said.
